Mosiacs
People have been making mosiacs for at least 4,000 thousand years.. It first started in Mesopotamia. They were made of bits of colored, glass, stones and other materials. Mosiacs were used to decorate ceilings, walls, floors, and other precious objects. Mosiacs existed before written languages were created.
The pictures below are Roman Mosiacs.

Here are some Kid examples:
What you will need to do this project:
- 1 large piece of paper, card stock, or cardboard for a background. A solid color is best.
- Several pieces of paper in various colors. You can use scrapbook paper, newspaper, magazines or even fabric.
- Glue - drippy glue or glue stick. If you have a glue sponge it works best.
- Picture of what you want to make
- Pencil & eraser
- Black marker
Instructions:
- Select one of the pictures below, or choose one of your own and draw it onto the large piece of paper, card stock or cardboard.. Make sure you use up your paper. Teeny, tiny drawings are hard to make into mosiacs.
- Go over your drawing with the black marker carefully, making smooth, careful lines.
- Cut the colored papers into squares. These will be our "Tiles".
- Place the tiles onto your picture so that they fit into your drawing. Trim tiles where needed. If you need to use triangles instead of squares, that's fine or use both for fun.
- Be sure to leave a small space between the tiles like the Greeks and Romans did.
